Mr. John Peek
5th Degree Chief Instructor 2006 State Champion Regional chief of tournaments I started my training in Taekwondo in 1983, at Baptist Bible College under the instruction of then 3rd degree Black Belt Mr. Isaacs (Senior Master Isaacs now). A young lady, who turned out to be the future Mrs. Peek, gave me my first lesson. I was a white belt learning Songahm One; she was a green belt (and very pretty). When I started my first lessons I never dreamed that my training would lead to a lifetime of Taekwondo. While in college I had the opportunity to travel across the United States doing demonstrations in public schools and in churches. I had the pleasure of seeing what enjoyment people got from watching martial arts, not only that, but Taekwondo could be used to give young men and women something else to do rather than hanging out on the streets. That is when I decided to continue my training after black belt. At my black belt testing Mr. Isaacs asked, “Why do you want a black belt,” and the reason given was to help others in the community. After college, Mrs. Peek and I moved to Savannah Ga. Where we began our first club in 1986. It was there that I passed Mrs. Peek in rank. After 2 years the Mrs. Peek and I moved back to south Florida were I was able to hook up with my original instructor Mr. Isaacs. We started a club in our church in the mid 1990s. It was from there the ATA Black Belt Academy of Deerfield was born. Mrs. Peek and I have 2 children, John David 1st degree, and Lindsay 2nd degree. I enjoys traveling to tournament for the main reason of keeping in touch with people who have changed my life with their friendship. Because of this in 2005 I was asked by region 104 Vice President to become Region Chief of Tournaments, a position I hold with great pleasure. One of my greatest joys in class is to see the light go on in students’ eyes when they realize that they too can be a black belt and succeed. |
